Tea is one of the most popular nonalcoholic beverages in the globe, and has played prominent role in the world history. According to some historical records, tea originated in southwest China as a medical drink more than 3,000 years ago. In the monumental book The Classic of Tea, Lu Yu (733-804 AD), a tea master and writer in Tang Dynasty, also noted, “Tea is a grand tree from the south”. Although thousands of years has passed, the Southern China still produces most of the tea in the country.
This racing bar chart shows the top 10 tea producing provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) between 1997-2017. Most of them were in Southern China.
